Collage Faces

Our first visual art activity for the year was to create collage faces of ourselves using magazines and newspapers. The task was to let their personality shine through. A great way to recycle! The kids thoroughly enjoyed using other people to create their face and things they like.
And it also makes a great display in our classroom.

Also....I finally got around to taking pictures and printing out the photos for our photo board. Below is the final product. I am pretty happy with it.

Birthday board

Birthday board labels designed! Now to print and laminate! Let me know if your keen for a copy and I email it to you .

The start.

Well... in a bit over a week I start my new (permanent!) teaching position! Waaaaa! I am pretty excited as well as extremely nervous. Some days I feel ready, others I don't. But what an exciting time as I start to plan and program what I will teach, design and plan what my classroom will look like and buy some fun stationary!
I will be teaching a year 5 class this year and I hope to blog about my experiences as a first year out teacher in the hope that I might give new, those in the same boat and more experienced teachers some tips, advice, resources and ideas to help them.

So far in my preparation... I have drawn a layout of what I want my classroom to look like (table arrangement etc..) as well as bought some bean bags and second hand books for a planned reading corner.
I have read through my program for first term and am starting to think about what I will do on the first day. Then I will think about the first week and the second week. As much as I love being prepared and organised...I have been told "just make it through to recess...then lunch...then home time". So I'm trying to not get too stressed over being not organised!

Also, I'm looking at ideas for classroom pin boards (like birthday, bulletin boards etc...). The internet is a wonderful place for this! So many creative people out there! I think I will use this one!

Wishing all you teachers a great start to the year! I'll be back soon with my progress!
